The cave of Pierre L'Ermite

An illustrious inhabitant

If Cricri is known to everyone here, the territory of the Agglomération Creil Sud Oise has at least one other illustrious cave dweller. He is Peter the Hermitwhich has left its mark on the landscape of the town of Montataire.

Behind the Château de Montataire, you will find the cave of Pierre l'Ermite, a troglodyte house located in the extension of the Rue du Jeu d'Arc.

According to the legend and the translation of the inscription engraved in Latin on the façade, it would have been inhabited before the first crusade, around 1090, by Peter the Hermit.

An illustrious clergyman

Pierre l'Ermite was a French religious from 11^th centurywho was known for his oratorical and tribune skills, and who preached the crusade after the call of Urban II at the Council of Clermont and who then led one of the main popular crusades of 1096.
