For over a century, bobbin lace production was one of the town's main economic activities. Chantilly lace had its moment of glory in the 19th century when, black in colour and exceptionally fine, it covered the toilettes of famous women. Empress Eugénie de Montijo was its ambassador to the French court. The Musée de la dentelle de Chantilly tells the story of this long-forgotten Chantilly craft, presenting collectors' items and the various stages in the manufacture of bobbin lace.
Parallèlement, le musée se veut un lien entre passé et présent en exposant régulièrement des créateurs qui utilisent, subliment ou jouent avec la dentelle et des artistes contemporains dont les travaux résonnent avec ce savoir-faire. Cet hiver, découvrez la nouvelle exposition temporaire...
