"When Violette learns that her mother Hortense has been adopted, she urges her to research her origins. They embark on a captivating investigation that brings them face to face with a little-known part of history: the Lebensborn, Nazi maternity hospitals set up all over Europe to populate the Reich with "racially perfect" children. They travel to Germany to meet another Lebensborn child and a German half-sister born to the same father. Each will provide the other with what they need to rebuild their lives. Inspired by first-hand accounts and real events, this is the very first play on the subject. (press kit)
The mother of one of the authors (there are 4 of them) is a child of Lebensborn. The play was written for her and for all the children of Lebensborn (they are now 80 years old): a project carried out with the association "Pour la Mémoire des Enfants des Lebensborn" ("For the Memory of the Children of Lebensborn").
The play first tells a personal and family story that intertwines with the history - so little known and whose importance in Nazi policy is largely underestimated - of the Lebensborn: and this "Great History" is based on the history of the Lebensborn home that was created in Lamorlaye in 1943 by the Nazis.
That's why ALMA asked the pARTage troupe to come and perform it on site!
